Mexico

News of violent drug wars and the emergence of H1N1 pretty much killed Mexico tourism in 2009. Resorts and hotels, desperate to sell their vacant rooms, started offering upwards of 50% off their original rates and used marketing ideas like free future stays if you got sick with the flu while visiting. Mexico is still pretty inexpensive and very easy to visit from the United States. The reported gang violence is nowhere near touristy cities of Cancun, Acapulco and Mexico City. What's more, you have very little chance of coming down with swine flu when visiting.
